AOPA Legislative Action-supported candidates

AOPA Legislative Action PAC is AOPA’s political action committee. The PAC provides financial support to candidates for the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives who are likely to support general aviation.

Like most organizations, AOPA is forbidden by law from using dues money to contribute to federal political campaigns. Instead, AOPA’s political action committee supports candidates using funds given to it by AOPA members on a strictly voluntary basis. That’s why the PAC asks AOPA members for support instead of including a contribution with dues.

This is a list of candidates who received support from AOPA Legislative Action PAC in the 1998 election cycle (1997-1998). The PAC chooses its slate of candidates on a strictly bipartisan basis. Many of these candidates are pilots or AOPA members. Others demonstrated their support for the interests of general aviation. Matt Fong, Robin Hayes, Mike Robinson and Pat Toomey are AOPA members who ran for Congress for the first time.
