Club Facilities

Why I'm interested in starting a club:
My base airport, which hangers about 500 planes, surprisingly has no flying club. Many of the tenants come from a close, more affluent area (Orange County/John Wayne) because of limited hanger space there. This area would be attractive to, and could support many more flyers, through a club at this airport. The airport has done very well lately with its pilot training facility. It's growth and expansion has been obvious. It would offer something to these new pilots and the surrounding community.

    Description of the hangar/clubhouse facilities:
As one of those people that can't afford to buy and maintain a new Cirrus or such, I have a Zodiac that I built and fly regularly, and I'm currently building a tube and fabric biplane in a typical 40' "T" hanger that I have leased for many years. Many other types and sizes of hangers are available at the airport. There's also plenty of tie-down spaces.

Progress made towards starting the club:
I helped start-up and ran a large annual fly-in event for five years here during the 90's. I was involved with the CAF chapter, helping run other airshows and am now a member of the EAA chapter at my airport. I gotten to know a lot of people over the years, not only at my base, but at neighboring airports, but I haven't ever really considered organizing a flying club. Never came across the opportunity but always have longed for better ways to associate with fellow pilots beyond what is available now. It seems like the perfect time and place for a new flying club where a big void exists.
