Why I'm interested in starting a club:
I am interested in starting a flying club with a specific goal of getting former pilots, student pilots and new pilots involved in sport/recreational flying. We have a very active EAA chapter that has a great Young Eagles program. Unfortunately, many of these new pilot prospects often do not pursue a career in aviation because there is no convenient and affordable way for them to get their initial pilot training. There is an organization that is seeking donations for a scholarship for initial flight training for recent high school graduates but that program is still in its infancy and it has a very narrow target group.

    Description of the hangar/clubhouse facilities:
There is a lower level conference room in the airport terminal building that could be reserved initially. Since this is a public municipal airport, any building construction would require approval of the Board of Aviation commissioners. Therefore, it is more likely that a private clubhouse off of airport property would eventually have to be rented/constructed if the flying club is based at KBAK.

Progress made towards starting the club:
A couple of people have discussed forming a aircraft partnership but, to my knowledge, no one has actively pursued the idea of forming a flying club here. For this reason, I do NOT expect Columbus to become a finalist for this scholarship.
