Aug. 9 - Although it's only been tucked in the corner of Air Mod's hangar for one week since Tom Horne delivered it last Tuesday, the Sweepstakes Bonanza has lost a lot of weight.
Out came the seats, carpets, side panels, floorboards, and fiberglass insulation.
After gutting the interior, a detailed inspection of the cabin structure has reinforced the conclusion that there has been no structural damage. A prepurchase inspection had revealed no hidden corrosion.
During the next five weeks, Dennis and Cynthia Wolter and their team of refurbishment experts will completely transform the raggedy two-tone blue 35-year-old Bonanza interior. While at Air Mod, N2001B's interior structure will be painted, the seats will be rebuilt, a sound suppression kit from Skandia Inc. will be added, and a unique leather interior will be installed. To help keep everything inside nice and secure, a new set of Medeco tough-to-pick door locks will be installed.
Air Mod is located along with Sporty's Pilot Shop at the Clermont Country Airport in Batavia, Ohio. The Sweepstakes Bonanza will be there until the middle of September.
