Meigs Field important, AOPA will tell Senate hearing in Chicago

AOPA will tell a Senate committee this Friday that Meigs Field and other regional reliever airports are part of the solution to airline delays at Chicago's airports. The Senate Commerce Committee will be holding a field hearing on "Congestion in Chicago Airspace." AOPA will offer testimony that communities must address the needs of the reliever airports in the entire region in order to achieve greater airline capacity at "benchmark" airports like O'Hare.

AOPA has also been asking local businesses, including Boeing, to add their support for keeping Meigs open. But Boeing, which received some $21 million in incentives from Chicago to move to the city, indicated it would not join the battle lines. Other Chicago-based companies have also been reluctant to publicly question Mayor Daley's decision to close Meigs Field, the closest airport to downtown Chicago and a reliever airport to O'Hare and Midway airports.
