AOPA President Phil Boyer will hold a Pilot Town Meeting in July for general aviation pilots in Portland, Oregon. In a lively, interactive session, Boyer will update pilots on current and upcoming developments in national aviation legislation, policy, and regulations and will solicit pilots' views of the general aviation situation in Oregon.
Boyer, president of the more than 380,000-member association, will also report on AOPA's success on pilot photo IDs and other perceived security issues facing the general aviation community. He will also outline AOPA's General Aviation Restoration Fund, which is an initiative to blanket the country with information amplifying the role of general aviation in commerce.
The Portland, Oregon, Pilot Town Meeting will take place at the Holiday Inn Portland Airport, 4839 NE Columbia Blvd., near the intersection of 82nd Avenue and NE Columbia Blvd. From I-205, take Exit 23B and turn right onto Columbia Blvd.
The Pilot Town Meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. and is open to all pilots without charge.
Phil Boyer, a 35-year veteran aviator and former network television senior executive, is the third full-time president in AOPA's 63-year history. Instrument and multiengine rated, he has logged more than 6,800 flight hours, including two transatlantic crossings. He has been president of AOPA since January 1991.
Boyer has held over 275 Pilot Town Meetings during the past nine years, reporting to pilots all across the country and soliciting their feedback to keep AOPA action focused on current pilot concerns. To date, some 56,000 pilots have participated in these Pilot Town Meetings. AOPA represents pilots and owners of the 221,000 general aviation aircraft that constitute 92 percent of the U.S. civilian fleet.
The next stop is Putrajaya, Malaysia, on May 17 and 18 for the 2014 Red Bill Air Race World Championship, following an “electrifying” contest in Rovinj, Croatia.
AOPA Foundation President Bruce Landsberg talks with AOPA Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and Advocacy Jim Coon on his first 100 days and the top advocacy issues confronting AOPA.
