Certified letter can bring good news--a Waco flight!

For Ken Rerich, AOPA 00703318, it was a moment of angst when the certified letter arrived. "It was hard to believe that a certified letter brought good news," he said. Then he opened the letter.

Rerich almost couldn't believe it when AOPA told him he'd been chosen as one of the 24 monthly winners who win a trip to Sedona, Ariz., for a ride in a Waco biplane similar to the Centennial of Flight Sweepstakes grand prize, a meticulously restored 1940 Waco UPF-7. But he couldn't wait either. "I was so excited that I wanted to immediately go kick the tire, light the fire, and go flying," he said.

Read about it in Ken's own words.

"The Waco Aircraft is a joy to fly and fly in," he went on. "It is very stable even in the afternoon thermals rising from the desert and low mountains of Arizona. Mike [Potts, Red Rock Biplane Tours] is very proficient in the machine and has more hours in it then I have in total.

"I can't say enough good things about the way we were treated by AOPA and Mike Potts and associates. It ended up being a five-star, red-carpet experience. Thanks to everyone involved. I have hung the framed commemorative plaque in my living room where it reminds me daily of my adventure."

The winner of the Centennial of Flight Sweepstakes grand-prize aircraft will be selected early in 2004. Anyone who joins or renews membership in AOPA during the two-year sweepstakes period is automatically entered. Complete rules and eligibility requirements are available on AOPA Online.
