RE: Proposed Rule for the Construction or Establishment of Solid Waste Landfills Near Certain Public Airports
To Whom It May Concern:
On behalf of the more than 400,000 members - over 11,200 in Georgia - of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), we are writing to express our strong support for the proposed rule 672-9-025, regarding the construction or establishment of a municipal solid waste landfill within six miles of a public airport. The State of Georgia is to be commended for its desire to protect the state's airports from wildlife and other hazards that may result from a landfill being sited too close to an airport.
AOPA is pleased to see great emphasis placed on public notification. Many times the first our members know of an impending hazard is when it is already under construction and little can be done to mitigate it. By encouraging public participation, particularly that of the airport users, the best possible outcome often can be achieved.
We appreciate your consideration of AOPA's views on this issue. If we can be of any assistance with this or other issues, please contact me directly at 301/695-2204 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
