State governments have an enormous impact on the health and vitality of general aviation. That’s why AOPA helped sponsor the South Carolina Aviation Association’s annual legislative breakfast April 2. The event, attended by 62 members of the state legislature, gave lawmakers an opportunity to learn more about the value of aviation—an industry that employs more than 65,500 people and generates more than $4.3 billion in economic activity for South Carolina. “Events like this help focus legislators’ attention on aviation issues and remind them that fostering an aviation-friendly environment is good for all of their constituents, not just pilots,” said AOPA Regional Representative Bob Minter, who participated in the event and took the opportunity to build a case for increased airport funding for the state’s airports.

AOPA VOICES STRONG SUPPORT FOR LEGISLATION REQUIRING FAA TO REVISE THIRD CLASS MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS
AOPA Foundation President Bruce Landsberg has challenged AOPA President Mark Baker to a dogfight. The battle? To see who can bring in the most "Hat in the Ring Society" donors before the end of the year to support aviation safety, promote community airports, and encourage more people to fly.
Tickets for the 2014 Red Bull Air Race World Championship series, including two U.S. races, are now on sale.
AOPA thanks our members for their continued support in protecting the freedom to fly.
