User fees should not be applied to any segment of aviation, Michigan Congressman Vern Ehlers said April 11 at an AOPA hangar session outside the Big Yellow Tent at Sun ’n Fun.
“Never, never, never, never,” said Rep. Ehlers, who is a member of the House aviation subcommittee.
Ehlers unexpectedly joined the group of pilots asking questions of AOPA President Phil Boyer.
Ehlers also talked about problems with the flight service station system (FSS), recounting how on a recent flight with a friend, the pilot’s flight plan got lost. “We’ve got to straighten that out,” he said.
Boyer noted that the Ehlers was a member of the committee that has demanded that the FAA produce a report on FSS performance every 90 days until all of the problems are resolved.
“Aviation is wonderful, and it serves so many purposes, ranging from the big airlines to the kids who fly their model planes,” said Ehlers. “It’s just a wonderful thing. We’ve got to support it, we’ve got to keep it going.”
Turning to Boyer, Ehlers concluded, “Thanks for what you and AOPA are doing.”
