Pilots should be aware that the FAA has begun issuing notams for hurricane relief efforts. Because TFR airspace frequently changes, AOPA strongly encourages pilots to obtain a briefing and check notams before every flight.
!FDC 8/7351 ZHU .. FLIGHT RESTRICTIONS, MC ALLEN, TEXAS. EFFECTIVE 0809101100 UTC UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. Pursuant to 14 CFR Section 91.137(a)(1) temporary flight restrictions are in effect in support of hurricane relief. All aircraft operations arriving McAllen Miller International Airport (KMFE) are prohibited except for: approved law enforcement, approved military aircraft, approved air ambulance flights, regularly scheduled commercial passenger, and regularly scheduled cargo carriers. All aircraft, including DoD aircraft, operating into KMFE must have an assigned slot time and be on an active IFR flight plan. All aircraft must get an arrival slot time and file an IFR flight plan prior to departure. Civilian aircraft in support of hurricane relief efforts must call the FAA recovery desk at 703-925-3011 or 866-654-2005 for an arrival slot time. U.S. military fixed wing aircraft must contact their mission control/coordinating center or AFNORTH RAMCC at DSN 523-5477 or COMM 850-283-5477 for arrival slot time.
