Alaska pilots know how critical safe, accessible airports are to their state. That’s why AOPA is encouraging pilots to come to Aviation North Expo, Oct. 16 through 18, to learn more about how they can become part of AOPA’s Airport Support Network (ASN) and help ensure the future of the airports they depend on.
The event will include an Oct. 17 presentation by ASN Director Jennifer Storm covering issues that include why every airport needs an ASN volunteer to prevent problems before they become crises, tips for identifying and serving stakeholders, ways to get the larger community involved, and ways to identify and expand an airport’s positive economic impact.
During the Expo, be sure to take in “Mastering Takeoffs and Landings” and “Top 5 Mistakes Pilots Make” seminars from the AOPA Air Safety Foundation and meet Tom George, AOPA’s regional representative for Alaska.
As the cold weather chills AOPA’s Headquarters in Frederick, many of us are inside generating new resources for flying clubs.
In my house, every Friday night is “Movie Night.” While the movies are rarely educational (I don’t think I learned anything from the Lego Movie), we look forward to the weekly opportunity to spend time together. Why not use the same concept for your Flying Club (with the addition of education, of course)?
AOPA Flying Club Manager Kelby Ferwerda posted the following on the AOPA Flying Club Facebook Page: “Recently I’ve talked with quite a few Flying Clubs about maintaining social activity through the cold winter months. Some clubs host Holliday Parties, others have Potluck Movie Nights. What does your club do to keep members involved during the chilly months?”
