Wide-eyed airplane pilots will reach for the armrests when the Goodyear blimp pitches down 30 degrees, filling the windscreen with beach and surf. See for yourself in this video as Marty Chandler, chief pilot at Goodyear's Pompano Beach, FL, blimp port describes airship operations and a day in the life of a lighter-than-air pilot. AOPA Editor in Chief Tom Haines flew the lumbering blimp with Chandler for a story in the May issue of AOPA Pilot as part of our coverage of the 100th anniversary of Goodyear Aviation. The Flying Physicians Association (FPA) has become the latest group to lend support to third-class medical reform and urge government officials to speed up their review of the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM). The NPRM would expand the number of pilots who could fly without needing to obtain a third-class medical certificate, a standard that has been successfully used by sport pilots for a decade.
California pilot Christopher Braun has created a revamped version of the cleco plier that is said to be lighter and more ergonomic.
