A winter storm hammered the Northeast with record snowfalls last week, and the first of winter means the white stuff is here to stay. But your flying doesn’t have to be over until spring.
Many manufacturers, including American Legend and Aviat offer skis for their airplanes. Legend’s Cub is available with Trick Air skis, a multipurpose manufacturer of composite skis. The Husky features Airglas skis in either fixed or retractable form.
But these are just two of many. With Christmas around the corner, what better time to ask for that perfect gift, or get it for yourself, and give your airplane more utility and have more fun.
Even if you don’t have a tailwheel airplane capable of flying on skis, you can still enjoy your airplane in the winter. Try the Alton Bay airport in New Hampshire. The residents of Alton Bay clear off the ice on Lake Winnipesaukee and form a temporary runway.
