Rotorway debuts turbine trainer

Rotorway International debuted the Eagle 300T, a new turbine-powered two-seat training helicopter, at EAA Airventure July 29. Traditionally a kit-built helicopter company, Rotorway plans to certify the Eagle 300T for wide acceptance in the training market.

The Eagle 300T will be the first two-seat trainer to feature Rolls-Royce RR300 small turbine engine. Rotorway said the engine will be rated to as high as 300-hp maximum and 240 continuous. But the Eagle 300T will only need 180 or 190 of that, a company representative said.

Rotorway plans to market the helicopter to both flight schools and militaries around the world, which they say are underserved by the market. By making it the least expensive turbine on the market, the company said it feels the Eagle 300T will be attractive to commercial operators as well, especially because it will be capable of sling training up to 500 pounds.
