A new feature added to AOPA’s Airport Directory Online lets you quickly and easily look up the Airport Support Network (ASN) volunteer for any public-use airport.
ASN volunteers are AOPA’s front lines of defense for community airports. These individuals promote, protect, and defend their airports in a variety of important ways. They keep tabs on what’s happening in and around their communities, particularly regarding activities that affect the airports. Functioning as informal “early warning systems,” ASN volunteers look for possible threats, such as encroaching residential or commercial development or noise complaints, and work with AOPA to protect the airport from possible restrictions.
ASN volunteers also reach out to their communities and elected officials to promote the value of their airports. For example, they might help organize an open house to promote a favorable image of the airports and demonstrate their value.
To find the nearest ASN volunteer, go to the public-use airport’s listing in the directory and scroll to the bottom. The name and an e-mail contact form will be displayed.
