Apr. 14, 2004 - The grand prize in the 2004 AOPA Win-A-Twin Sweepstakes, a better-than-new 1965 Piper Twin Comanche, is fresh out of KD Aviation's paint shop and on display at Sun 'n Fun at Lakeland Linder Airport in Lakeland, Fla.
From there, it's on to Sebastian Communication of Merritt Island, Fla., for a complete panel makeover. When it's done, it'll look like the artist's rendering below.
Plans for the new panel include a full Garmin avionics stack, including the CNX-80, the first certified WAAS-enabled GPS unit; a PMA8000 audio panel and PAV80 entertainment system with AM/FM radio, CD, and DVD - and two LCD screens for the passengers from PS Engineering; an S-Tec three-axis autopilot; a Honeywell/Bendix-King KI-825 EHSI; and a J.P. Instruments engine analyzer/fuel totalizer. That work should be done in time for the sweepstakes Twin Comanche's appearance at the 14th annual AOPA Fly-In and Open House on Saturday, June 5, in Frederick, Md.
After that, Airtex Interiors will make sure the grand prize winner flies in comfort and style.
Anyone who joins or renews membership in AOPA during 2004 is automatically entered in the Win-A-Twin Sweepstakes. Members can pick up an additional entry if they refer someone who then becomes a member. Complete rules, eligibility requirements, and alternate methods of entry are available online.
The Catholic Aviation Association wants to use faith, flying, and fellowship to promote general aviation.
AOPA is urging the town of Islip, N.Y., to reconsider a recently enacted fee schedule that sets higher rates for night landings.
A satellite-based transceiver has shown promise to enable worldwide Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast coverage.
