Sport pilot Michael Combs has completed several flight days on his months-long Flight for the Human Spirit and as of 29 was flying in Indiana.
Flying a well-equipped Remos GX, Combs has encountered some delays since launching April 8 from Salina, Kan. Weather grounded the airplane in Maryland and New York. A stop in Stevensville, Md., for an oil change created another delay when the airport closed for one day. As Combs departed Bangor, Maine, for a leg to Burlington, Vt., he had to dodge rain showers and maneuver carefully through the Green Mountain range in the Appalachians.
But there have also been positive moments for Combs, who has undertaken the flight to encourage everyone he meets that “it’s never ever too late to follow your dreams.” He toured the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., and spoke to an enthusiastic group of aviation students at Polytech High School in Dover, Del. He continues to update his trip through blogs, podcasts, Twitter, and Facebook.
