A relaxing island getaway, a luxurious ocean liner, family fun at Disneyland, and the home of historic aircraft: It’s all within reach from Long Beach, Calif.
Bordered by five and a half miles of sandy beaches, Long Beach is centrally located in the heart of Southern California. With beautiful weather and access to one-of-a-kind attractions, it’s a perfect setting for AOPA Aviation Summit, Nov. 11 through 13.
Right in Long Beach, you can enjoy fine dining and entertainment on the RMS Queen Mary, visit undersea galleries at the Aquarium of the Pacific, and stroll through any one of many museums. You can also find live music venues and hundreds of restaurants in the downtown area during your visit for Summit. AOPA is making the most of the event’s prime location with social events in downtown Long Beach. Go online to get exclusive AOPA Summit hotel rates for your stay.
If you’re looking to get away from it all, take a cruise on the Pacific Ocean to the island of Catalina. Enjoy shopping and island cuisine, and explore the coastline to discover breathtaking views and island wildlife.
After you’ve checked out the aircraft displays and family activities during Airportfest at Long Beach Airport, get another dose of aviation history at the Planes of Fame Museum in Chino, only a short drive away. You also can take your family to nearby Disneyland. Find out more about the attractions of Long Beach online.

As the cold weather chills AOPA’s Headquarters in Frederick, many of us are inside generating new resources for flying clubs.
In my house, every Friday night is “Movie Night.” While the movies are rarely educational (I don’t think I learned anything from the Lego Movie), we look forward to the weekly opportunity to spend time together. Why not use the same concept for your Flying Club (with the addition of education, of course)?
AOPA Flying Club Manager Kelby Ferwerda posted the following on the AOPA Flying Club Facebook Page: “Recently I’ve talked with quite a few Flying Clubs about maintaining social activity through the cold winter months. Some clubs host Holliday Parties, others have Potluck Movie Nights. What does your club do to keep members involved during the chilly months?”
