Early expiration set for Atlanta TAC, sectional

Pilots are advised to discontinue using edition 82 of the Atlanta Terminal Area Chart and edition 85 of the Atlanta Sectional Chart on Jan. 13, 2011, despite a published March 2011 expiration date for both charts.

New charts—edition 83 of the Atlanta Terminal Area Chart and edition 86 of the Atlanta sectional—will become effective Jan. 13, 2011, and will expire Aug. 25, 2011, according to a safety alert issued by the FAA’s AeroNav Products division.

The change in the valid dates of the Atlanta charts was necessary to accommodate major revisions of the Charlotte Class B Airspace that become effective Jan. 13, 2011. AOPA reported on the airspace redesign on Nov. 18.

A portion of Charlotte’s Class B airspace appears in the northeast portion of the Atlanta sectional chart.
