When AOPA members in Ohio learned that a state senator was organizing a legislative aviation caucus, they responded to by encouraging their own lawmakers to join.
State Sen. Jason Wilson knows that general aviation supports jobs, the economy, and vital services in every corner of Ohio, a state with more than 170 public-use airports and 17,000 pilots. That made it important for GA-supportive legislators in the state—with its rich aviation history—to band together “to foster and protect this critical industry.”
Wilson took on that challenge, as reported in the January 2011 AOPA Pilot.
The effort is producing effective results. Already, some 35 state representatives and senators have joined the Ohio Legislative Aviation Caucus. The state has a total of 33 senators and 99 House members.
“Senator Jason Wilson is phenomenal as a friend of aviation in Ohio,” said AOPA Eastern Region Representative Gregory Winton. “We are looking forward to working with Ohio on GA initiatives. We are excited about future prospects,” he said.
