AvMap has released an aeronautical navigator called the EKP V that offers a GPS-driven moving map with approach plates and airport diagrams.
The unit uses a seven-inch sunlight-readable LCD screen, a horizontal or vertical mode, a slim profile of less than an inch in thickness, and the ability to connect the unit to other devices. The unit weights 14 ounces.
Those devices include the autopilot, XM WX weather, the electronic flight instrument system, and others. The unit comes with a two-year warranty and sells for $1,999.
The unit has a built-in, rechargeable lithium battery and support for WAAS for more accurate GPS signals.
AvMap also offers the GeoPilot II for navigation on land or in the air, and the INCAS ADS-B collision avoidance system, a small unit with a 3.5-inch screen, a built-in altimeter and GPS, and a communication range of 5 to 40 nautical miles.
The FAA has asked the National Transportation Safety Board to review a judge’s ruling reversing a fine it levied in an unmanned-aircraft case.
