The Navy has scheduled three public information meetings April 12 through 14 on the draft environmental impact statement (EIS) for a proposed expansion of the Twentynine Palms Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, Calif.
The proposal details six alternatives for adding special-use airspace and modifying existing special-use airspace. The Navy says the proposed changes are necessary for the Marine Corps to conduct live-fire and field training exercises. AOPA is reviewing the draft EIS for its possible impact on general aviation in the area, which has a high concentration of transient general aviation flights. AOPA plans to submit formal comments on the proposal.
The open house meetings will be held: Tuesday, April 12, from 5 to 9 p.m., at Copper Mountain College, Bell Center Gym, 6162 Rotary Way, Joshua Tree, CA 92252.
Wednesday, April 13, from 5 to 9 p.m., at Ontario High School Gym, 901 W. Francis St., Ontario, CA 91762.
Thursday, April 14, from 5 to 9 p.m., at Hilton Garden Inn, Mirage/ Sahara Conference Center, 12603 Mariposa Road, Victorville, CA 92395.
Pilots are encouraged to attend the meetings and offer specific comments by May 26 on how the proposal would impact their flight operations. Click here for a full description of the draft EIS and graphic depictions of the proposed alternatives, and to submit comments by May 26.
Please also share your comments with AOPA.
