Flight Design upgrades warranties

German light sport aircraft manufacturer Flight Design has announced improvements and retroactive applicability of warranties for purchasers of new CTLS or MC aircraft, or its new four-seat C4 aircraft for the certified IFR market.

Flight Design announced its new XP, or eXtended Protection Warranty on Jan.16, noting in a news release that the warranty’s new service level would add value to its products by remaining in effect if the aircraft changed ownership during the warranty period.

Flight Design said it is offering five years of coverage of composite airframe structure, plus three-year coverage of Flight Design-installed avionics and autopilot and propeller at no additional cost to customers. The standard Rotax engine warranty coverage of 18 months or 200 hours is extended to three years or 500 hours, whichever occurs first.

The XP warranty is to be included on all new Flight Design aircraft sales from Jan. 1, 2012, and will apply retroactively to aircraft delivered and placed in service on or after Jan. 1, 2011, subject to XP Warranty acceptance by Flight Design, the company said. Covered aircraft must be serviced at the Flight Design Service Center where sold, or with pre-authorization at a different service facility.

Rotax service bulletins will be handled in accordance with Rotax’s coverage, and are not included in the XP Warranty, Flight Design said.

“Since the beginning we have focused on delivering value to our customers,” said Flight Design USA President Tom Peghiny. “We have a solid group of highly trained service outlets and we have an ongoing program to assure customers get the information to maintain their aircraft to high standards. To that we now add one of the best warranties in aviation.”
