One of the big news items at AOPA Aviation Summit this year will be the unveiling of the AOPA Flying Club initiative. Part of the new AOPA Center to Advance the Pilot Community, this is the result of extensive research involving flying club members, leaders, and non-members across the country. Over 400 flying clubs and 800 individual pilots participated in the research.
The main session is scheduled from 12:00 pm – 1:15 pm on Friday, October 12 and is open to all. It will share data from the research and details of how AOPA plans to support and grow the community of flying clubs. An online “Club Finder” will also be unveiled, to help people find a flying club in their local area. The informational session will be followed by a social meeting primarily for flying club leaders to talk with each other about how their clubs operate and to share ideas and information.
If you are attending AOPA Aviation Summit 2012 in Palm Springs, California from October 11 – 13, stop by the information booth in the lobby of the Palms Springs Convention Center, staffed Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, to find out more about the AOPA Flying Club initiative.
Technical Communications Manager, Kathy Dondzila, joined AOPA in 1990 and is an instrument-rated private pilot.
The FAA will miss a deadline to reform aircraft certification by two years, the agency told the House Aviation Subcommittee during a July 23 hearing.
AOPA is testing whether aircraft ownership can be more affordable than many people believe with the development of “Reimagined Aircraft.”
Over the past several years, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) developed its digital flight planning tools into a suite of products that put flight planning capability, airport directory information and aviation weather in pilots’ hands. AOPA partnered with Seattle Avionics to create FlyQ EFB, an electronic flight bag (EFB) iPad application, and FlyQ Pocket, a smartphone application.
