The flagship of the Cessna fleet, the Citation Ten, has been returned to its old name of X. Customers told Cessna Aircraft they wanted the line to remain the Citation X, now the fastest business jet in the world. There isn’t much room left between the Citation X speed of Mach 0.935 and Mach 1.0 for competitors to steal away the title of fastest business jet.
Flight Display Systems is introducing a glareshield camera for the cockpit that can provide passengers with a chance to observe taxi, takeoff, and landing. It is aimed at the business jet market. Also during NBAA2012 in Orlando, the company introduced a Blu-ray player that can be mounted horizontally or vertically.
GE Aviation is gathering hardware for the assembly of its first Passport engine for the Bombardier Global 7000 and Global 8000 aircraft. Assembly of the first full engine to test will begin by the end of the year.
While Hawker jet owners may end up the losers, owners of Beechcraft products may be winners as Hawker Beechcraft emerges from bankruptcy in early 2013. Company officials at NBAA2012 in Orlando announced this week a series of new propeller-driven products and the potential for reengined Barons and Bonanzas with diesel- or jet-fuel powerplants. Shawn Vick, executive vice president for customers, said the company has been working on a five-year plan of product developments that include four new products. He showed a slide of a single-engine turboprop that is basically a Hawker Premier jet composite fuselage stretched to carry eight to 11 passengers at 300 knots in and out of rough fields.
The Safe Flight Instrument Corp. AutoPower automatic throttle system has received a supplemental type certificate for use on the Gulfstream G150. AutoPower is also available on the Gulfstream G200. In other Safe Flight Instrument news, West Star Aviation has received an FAA STC for the AutoPower system on the Hawker Beechcraft Hawker 900/850/800/750. The system is also used on the Bombardier Challenger CL 850/CRJ200 and the Cessna Citation X.
Robert Hamilton, former head of marketing for Dynon Avionics, has been named president of the company, effective Oct. 29. Hamilton assumed the duties after the departure of Vice President of Engineering and COO Nick Bogner on Oct. 26. Bogner left to take on a challenging opportunity at another company after 12 years with Dynon.
