Nothing binds a group of like-minded individuals together like gathering around a campfire. When building their campfire site helps pilots preserve recreational aviation, everybody wins.
On Oct. 23, the Recreational Aviation Foundation dedicated its second Fire Hub at San Marcos Municipal Airport in Texas on a lawn not far from the hub’s corporate sponsor, Redbird Skyport.
The fire hub program gives supporters a chance to buy commemorative bricks containing a personalized message, said an RAF news release. “Every dollar of profit furthers the RAF mission of preserving our freedom to enjoy recreational destinations,” said Jim Lynch, RAF project manager.
The San Marcos hub follows up an inaugural hub sponsored by AOPA at Sun n Fun in Lakeland, Fla. The RAF hopes to build 50 fire hubs nationwide, each with a corporate sponsorship of $12,500 as a “cornerstone contribution.” Individual commemorative bricks cost $100.
