Learning from the success of the Evolution, which AOPA reported on last year, Lancair officials have begun to offer completed kit prices for the piston-powered Legacy models. The Oregon company began offering complete kit prices with the single-engine turboprop Evolution, of which 35 are flying. Lancair Director of Sales and Marketing Doug Meyer explained that the kit pricing project allows buyers to know up front how much their airplane will cost, which increases customer comfort and acceptance.
The Legacy comes in three basic configurations: The 310-horsepower normally aspirated RG-550 model complete with Continental IO-550N engine, propeller, and Garmin G3X avionics suite and autopilot with GTN 650 navigator sells for $249,995; the fixed-gear variant sells for $244,995. The FG550, a fixed-gear model powered by the Lycoming IO-390 is $202,795. Included in addition to everything to complete the airplane is the two-week builder assist program at the factory.
Those who would rather purchase the airplane in individual airframe, engine, firewall forward, and panel kits can do so.
All new Legacy kits come with a new cuffed wing that improves the wing’s stall characteristics. The cuff and stall strip kit is available for retrofit for $1,495 on earlier Legacies.
Meanwhile, Lancair and Jeppesen announced that all new Evolutions will receive a one-year subscription of all North American Jeppesen NavData services at no charge.
In a major deal between two of the best-known U.S. antique aircraft firms, Rare Aircraft has purchased a huge inventory of Stearman parts from Air Repair and will begin producing as-new Golden Age biplanes.
Garmin has announced an upgrade making new features and options available to operators of G1000-equipped King Airs in the 200/250/300/350 series.
Pilots from Maine and New England turned out in numbers for the annual Maine Aviation Forum hosted by EAA Chapter 1434.
