Decommissioning proposed for Bettles LOC/DME

The FAA has proposed to decommission the Bettles Runway 01 LOC/DME located in Bettles, Alaska.

Members are encouraged to submit comments to the FAA on the impact of this proposal on their flight operations as provided below. The navaid was identified for decommissioning, the FAA said, “in order to defray the cost of replacement.” FAA policy now requires that decommissioning must be evaluated for all navigation facilities prior to upgrading or performing major repairs.

Pilots may submit comments to the FAA on the decommissioning proposal by April 3 via email or by mail to Manager, Operations Support Group, Western Service Center, Federal Aviation Administration, Docket No. 12-AAL-12NR, 1601 Lind Ave. SW, Renton, WA, 98057.

Please also share your comments with AOPA.
