In my experience, FAA “ramp checks” are a bit of a mystery. We hear about them, but because there are so many airports and so many airmen, and not as many FAA inspectors, the chances of being ramp checked are not too big. Still, it can happen to you any time that you’re getting ready to take off or when you’ve just landed, so let’s look at the question, “What is a ramp inspection?”

Friends of wing walker Jane Wicker want to restore her 450-horsepower Stearman biplane, destroyed in a June 2013 accident that killed Wicker and her pilot.
Able Flight, the nonprofit organization that works to provide free flight training to individuals with physical disabilities, announced the awards of a record-setting nine scholarships in 2014.
The FAA proposes to supersede an airworthiness directive requiring modification of the aft main spar of some Diamond Aircraft DA40 and DA40F airplanes.
