In my experience, FAA “ramp checks” are a bit of a mystery. We hear about them, but because there are so many airports and so many airmen, and not as many FAA inspectors, the chances of being ramp checked are not too big. Still, it can happen to you any time that you’re getting ready to take off or when you’ve just landed, so let’s look at the question, “What is a ramp inspection?”

The House has passed a bill requiring the TSA to consult stakeholders, including general aviation representatives, before making major changes to security policy.
A bad spark plug can do a lot of damage. Giving them a look more than once a year can pay dividends.
The Aviation Safety Reporting System is a voluntary safety reporting program that allows airmen to make anonymous reports to the government about issues encountered in aviation, with anonymity allowing the airman to be candid–even when their actions may have been a violation of the regulations.
AOPA thanks our members for their continued support in protecting the freedom to fly.
