The FAA has proposed to modify low-altitude RNAV route T–266 in Alaska by removing two nondirectional beacons (NDBs) from the route description and replacing them with RNAV waypoints. Members are encouraged to submit comments on the proposal by March 8.
According to the notice of proposed rulemaking, the Annette Island VOR/DME would remain as one end point of T-266, but two NDBs would be removed from the route description and replaced by eight RNAV waypoints. The existing RADKY fix near the Coghland Island NDB would be relocated to the southeast of its current position and serve as the other end point. The FAA said the changes would enhance safety by providing for lower minimum enroute altitudes, and by reducing reliance on ground-based navigation guidance.
