If you’ve been thinking about starting a flying club, there may be no better time—especially if you could win a brand-new scholarship that might help ensure your club’s success.
A newly formed organization, Ground Effect Advisors, announced the scholarship Jan. 25. One recipient will receive $2,500 worth of products, services, and support, all of which is geared to getting the next great flying club off the ground, the group said. Support includes a customized playbook for starting a flying club to meet the recipient’s specific situation; at least 20 hours of consultation from a team of experts; website and social media consultation; and customized polo shirts.
Scholarship sponsors include David Clark, which will provide two H10-13.4 headsets; Sporty’s and Cirrus Aircraft, providing airplane cleaning supplies; and Signature Flight Support, donating a gift certificate for 50 gallons of aviation fuel.
The application period is open and applications will be accepted until May 1. The recipient will be announced June 1, with a target date for the new flight club to be launched as of Sept. 1. Visit the website for an application and more information.
Ground Effect Advisors said its focus is on making an impact in general aviation by “exploiting the vast potential of flying clubs.”
AOPA’s Center to Advance the Pilot Community (CAPComm) also offers numerous resources as part of the Flying Club Initiative: the AOPA Flying Club Finder, where you can search for a club near you or promote your club to potential members; sample bylaws; and information on organizing a club, finding and financing aircraft, taxes, insurance, safety, and flight training. Visit CAPComm’s Flying Club Page to sign up for the free monthly Club Connector electronic newsletter.
