A temporary military operations area (TMOA) will be established June 17 through 28 in parts of northern Michigan and Wisconsin. AOPA members were originally asked to comment on the proposed TMOA in January.
The Air Force will establish the Sentry and Ironwood TMOAs to support Exercise Northern Sentry. The TMOA will be in effect from 6,000 feet msl up to but not including Flight Level 180 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. daily.
“There may be impacts to several Victor airways at a time of the year when general aviation operations are high, so we urge pilots to plan accordingly,” said Melissa McCaffrey, AOPA senior government analyst of air traffic services.
New categories such as kit airplanes and Light Sport aircraft have joined the old standards from the 1950s like the Cessna 172, but most new aircraft built today feature advanced technology including glass cockpits, satellite navigation, and electronic engine monitors.
When the CDI became fully deflected, time was up for troubleshooting a glitchy GPS.
The FAA has issued a final rule modifying RNAV terminal routes (T-routes) in Charlotte, N.C., effective May 29.
