The AOPA Foundation is asking the general aviation community to support its efforts by making donations on Dec. 3 as part of the second annual #GivingTuesday campaign. #GivingTuesday was created to be a national day of giving to kick off the holiday season and as a way to celebrate and encourage charitable activities that support nonprofit organizations.
In the first year of #GivingTuesday, more than $10 million in online donations were raised on Nov. 27. More than 50 million people worldwide spread the word via Twitter about #GivingTuesday, resulting in the hashtag becoming a trending topic.
The AOPA Foundation supports projects such as the Air Safety Institute, growing the pilot population, and preserving and improving community airports. The foundation also launched the Giving Back program to provide flight training scholarships and support the good work being done through GA by nonprofit organizations.
