Light sport and experimental avionics maker Dynon has introduced the second product in its Pocket Panel line with the D2, an attitude indicator that features Wi-Fi connectivity allowing GPS flight data to be sent to aviation applications on an iPad, smartphone, or tablet.
The D2, released Oct. 6, also features a second-screen G meter. It retails for $1,425. Dynon also announced a price reduction for the original D1, to $1,195.
The "truly portable" D2’s Wi-Fi connectivity can send attitude, GPS groundspeed, altitude, and ground track data in real time to an aviation app’s flight information display. Dynon listed compatible apps including AOPA FlyQ, WingX Pro7, BendixKing myWingMan, iHUD Remote, and Air Navigation Pro.
The second-page G meter displays as a round dial showing the current load factor, and records the minimum and maximum Gs registered since its last reset.
Both the D1 and D2 use the attitude, heading, and reference system (AHRS) technology "that has made Dynon the leading supplier of EFIS (Electronic Flight Information Systems) in experimental and Light Sport Aircraft," the company said in its news release. Both units "are true artificial horizons with accurate pitch and roll, and can find the horizon even if turned on in flight." The AHRS sensors also drive a turn-rate indicator and slip-skid ball.
