AOPA has announced a new release of its popular FlyQ EFB iPad application. FlyQ EFB 1.2, which was highlighted in demonstrations at EAA AirVenture 2013, is now available in the iTunes App Store.
The latest version of FlyQ EFB focuses on increased safety and ease of use for members. Highlights of the latest version include terrain and obstacle avoidance warnings, a simple one-tap preflight data check, fuel prices, and support of the highly acclaimed Sagetech Clarity ADS-B receivers. This is the second major release of the app this year—and it’s a big one.
The unique feature in the new release is the Preflight Data Checklist. With a single tap, the app will check to be sure you have downloaded all of the data (charts, diagrams, plates, etc.) required for your loaded flight plan. If anything is missing or out of date, one more tap downloads just what you need—simple, convenient, and safe.
In direct response to member requests, fuel prices are now available for more than 2,000 U.S. airports. Provided by Flight Guide Publications, reported fuel prices are clearly overlaid on the chart to allow pilots to quickly determine closest fuel at the best price.
FlyQ EFB 1.2 helps pilots improve situational awareness with the addition of terrain and obstacle warnings in both 2-D and 3-D modes. Potential hazards are color-coded, making it easier than ever for pilots to avoid getting caught off guard by potential threats along their flight path.
The latest version of the app continues to expand the ADS-B weather options available for members with the addition of support for the Sagetech Clarity family of receivers. Connection to the Clarity ADS-B receivers (via Wi-Fi connection) provides the EFB with GPS, real-time updated in-flight weather, and synthetic vision (Clarity SV model only).
Other new features include interactive airspace labels including MOA/SUA, auto-load of airport diagram upon landing, airmets and sigmets map chart overlay, display of distance and bearing from your current location, surface wind depiction on airport diagram, display of runway crosswind component, and various minor bug fixes.
Version 1.2 retains FlyQ’s most popular and useful features, including multiple auto-routing options based on forecast winds aloft, moving map, airport information and geo-referenced airport diagrams, geo-referenced approach procedures, Track Up/ North Up views, 3-D synthetic vision and flight simulator, and FlyQ’s patent-pending graphical wind optimizer displays.
Pilots with existing FlyQ subscriptions can upgrade to Version 1.2 for free by accessing FlyQ on the iTunes App Store. First-time FlyQ users are eligible for a free, 30-day trial subscription.
Two subscription levels are available for FlyQ EFB: VFR package, $69.99/ year, and IFR plus VFR package, $119.99/ year (includes all VFR features plus IFR Hi/Lo en route charts and geo-referenced approach plates).
