The FAA has issued a flight advisory to notify pilots of additional flight restrictions and modifications to the Washington, D.C., Special Flight Rules Area (SFRA) and Flight Restricted Zone (FRZ) in connection with the 2014 State of the Union Address on Jan. 28.
President Barack Obama’s address to the nation will take place between 8 and 11 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on Jan. 28. The FAA has issued the flight advisory to outline restrictions that will be in effect including access requirements for flights using airports within the airspace; prohibitions on IFR and VFR flights transiting the airspace; the suspension of egress procedures for several area airports; the suspension of VFR traffic pattern operations at airports within the SFRA; and other prohibited operations.
Pilots are advised that the temporary flight restriction information depicted with the flight advisory may be incomplete, and should not be used for flight planning purposes. A notice to airmen will be issued to provide specifics restrictions, procedures, and effective times. Once the notam has been issued, it may be reviewed here.
Prior to operating in the area, pilots are advised to check notams frequently for possible changes. The FAA strongly advises pilots to contact a flight service station (800/WX- BRIEF) before a flight to check for all current notams.
