A private pilot from Georgia was attending EAA AirVenture for the first time after winning a travel package in an aviation headset manufacturer’s random drawing.
William Klein of Vidalia, Georgia’s name was drawn as the winner of Lightspeed Aviation’s VIP trip to AirVenture, which is taking place in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, through Aug. 3. Klein's name went into the competition after he purchased a Lightspeed Zulu 2 headset, the company said in a news release.
The all-expenses-paid trip for two will cover lodging, airfare, and attendance at a variety of aviation experiences at the world's biggest fly-in for the Gulfstream Aerospace project engineer who has been a private pilot since 2003, and is a graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. His fiancée was to accompany him to AirVenture.
"It is so exciting that the winner of the VIP trip to Oshkosh is someone that has always dreamed of going and has never had the chance to," said Teresa De Mers, Lightspeed’s executive vice president for sales, marketing, and customer support.
Lightspeed, of Lake Oswego, Oregon, introduced its first product at the annual aviation event in Oshkosh in 1996.
The company also promotes aviation through the Lightspeed Aviation Foundation, established in 2010 to support "growth and compassion-related causes with an aviation focus" through grants issued under its Pilot’s Choice Program.
After nearly a year of voting for their favorite AOPA Pilot magazine covers, members have dubbed the March 2000 cover featuring the Grumman Widgeon the winner.
The AOPA National Aviation Community Center hosted Paws and Planes, an event that showed kids flying for others – including our four-footed friends – can be rewarding and fun.
Pilots focus on preheating the engine during cold weather, but what about the cockpit? More than 30 percent of an aircraft's value is often tied up in the panel.
