The FAA is notifying pilots of a VIP temporary flight restriction for March 7 through 9 that covers southeast Florida, including the Miami area. One is in the area of Homestead and Miami on March 7 and the restrictions continue with another March 7 through 9 local time centered on Key Largo.
The inner core of TFRs are usually a 10-nautical-mile ring or rings. General aviation aircraft are not permitted to operate within the inner core. The outer ring covers the inner core to 30 nm. IFR and VFR flights are permitted as long as they are on a flight plan, squawking a discrete beacon code, and talking to air traffic control. Pilots may land or depart from airports within the outer ring and fly through the outer ring as long as they follow the appropriate procedures.
Pilots should check the notams for the affected areas and effective times, as the location of the TFR moves. Because TFR airspace frequently changes, AOPA strongly encourages pilots to obtain a briefing before every flight.
