AOPA offers safety seminars, more at Sun ‘n Fun

AOPA’s presence at the 2014 Sun ‘n Fun International Fly-in and Expo promises an exciting lineup of new events and activities designed to connect you with your association, help you make new friends, and grow your piloting skills. An expanded AOPA campus at Sun ‘n Fun will feature a new Activity Tent where breakfasts, luncheons, celebrity meet-and-greets, and dozens of safety and training seminars will be held.

Safety and training seminars feature important topics presented by Kristine Hartzell of the AOPA Foundation’s Air Safety Institute, John and Martha King of King Schools, and flight instructor and author Rod Machado. Other presenters include Mark Robidoux, Wally Moran, John Krug, and representatives from the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). Details about the newest products and services to enhance your flying will be presented by industry leaders from Jeppesen, DTC DUAT, Garmin, AOPA FlyQ, Lockheed Martin, OpenAirplane, and Sagetech. Other seminar topics include aircraft insurance, AOPA Pilot Protection Services, aviation photography, and cockpit camera systems. Celebrity appearances to sign autographs will include the AeroShell Aerobatic Team, Patty Wagstaff, and Rod Machado.

A full schedule of the events in the AOPA Activity Tent is available online.

On Wednesday, April 2, a free pancake breakfast will be held with Mark Baker from 8 to 9:30 a.m. RSVPs are requested by email with the subject line "SNF Breakfast." Please indicate how many guests will be attending with you.

As always, AOPA’s main tent will offer a chance to meet association staff, renew your membership, learn about AOPA products and services, shop for AOPA merchandise, enter to win prizes, and see AOPA’s Debonair Sweepstakes aircraft. You can make a souvenir customized luggage tag, talk to AOPA employees who work for you, learn more about AOPA’s Strategic Partners and how they can make your flying more affordable, check the weather, or just hang out in AOPA’s new outdoor courtyard area to relax, enjoy conversation, and build new friendships. Activities in the main tent include the following:

  • Fly the Jay simulators—challenge yourself with fun and fascinating scenarios on the Redbird/AOPA simulators.
  • Put your photo on the cover of AOPA Pilot— take pictures with friends and families and get a digital copy of your image on the Pilot magazine cover.
  • Shop for AOPA merchandise in the AOPA Store.
  • Get a free AOPA AeroShell Aerobatic Team luggage tag, and an AOPA 75th Anniversary commemorative lapel pin.
  • Explore flight planning tools such as FlyQ.
  • Renew your membership, learn more about AOPA offerings, talk with AOPA Pilot Protection Services professionals, and get information about aircraft insurance.
  • Speak to AOPA Finance about rates and get $25 off closing costs.

The Sun ‘n Fun daily airshow will offer demonstrations by a number of well-known aerobatic performers, warbirds, parachute teams, the U.S. Air Force, and the U.S. Navy’s famous Blue Angels. A full schedule of the airshow and other events at Sun ‘n Fun is available at the fly-in’s website.

We hope to see you this year at the new and expanded AOPA campus as we enjoy this great international fly-in and expo!
