The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation has scheduled a markup of the Pilot’s Bill of Rights 2 (S. 571). The markup, scheduled for Dec. 9, will give committee members an opportunity to review the bill’s language and vote on the measure.
“We’re pleased that the committee has scheduled time to consider this measure before Congress finishes its work for the year,” said Jim Coon, AOPA senior vice president of government affairs. “Committee leaders recognize how important this measure is to the aviation community and we’re optimistic that the Pilot’s Bill of Rights 2 will pass and move to the full Senate for a vote.”
On Nov. 18, the committee reviewed the bill and passed an amendment to the measure offered by Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.). But the committee was prevented from voting on the Pilot’s Bill of Rights 2 because of a scheduling conflict that left the group without the needed quorum.
If the committee passes the bill, it will go to the full Senate, where it has 70 bipartisan cosponsors, for a vote. Before the measure can become law, the House also will have to approve the measure. The Pilot’s Bill of Rights 2 has 151 bipartisan cosponsors in the House.
