AOPA Insurance announces new hangar insurance program

Policy offers protection for as low as $42 a month

AOPA Insurance announces new hangar insurance program

AOPA Insurance Services has created an exclusive hangar insurance program for general aviation pilots, the company announced.

AOPA Insurance is the exclusive broker for the new program, which protects pilots in cases of hangar damage, personal injury, fire or wind damage, or theft for as little as $42 a month. The policy covers the hangar and related property with a low $1,000 deductible.

“With our new Hangar Insurance Program, you will have the peace of mind of knowing that if a situation occurs—hangar damage, personal injury, fire or wind damage, theft—you have coverage to protect you at a price that is affordable,” said AOPA Insurance Services Senior Vice President Brenda J. Jennings.

AOPA Hangar Insurance provides premises liability coverage of $1 million to $5 million each occurrence and medical expense coverage of $1,000 per person. Optional coverages include business personal property, loss of revenue, necessary extra expense, fire legal liability, personal and advertising injury, and hangarkeeper’s liability, and policies may be customized to meet a pilot’s needs. The deductible for most policies is $1,000, but pilots with hangars within 100 miles of the Atlantic or Gulf Coast should ask for more details about their area.

Aircraft owners who lease their hangars should check their lease agreements to see whether the city or fixed-base operator’s insurance covers their hangar and related property because it may not.
