Nonprofit organizations seeking to offer flight training scholarships to aspiring aviators can receive help funding the scholarships through the AOPA Foundation’s new grant program. The deadline to apply for one of two $5,000 grants is July 24.
“We frequently hear from charitable organizations that want to offer a flight training scholarship but do not have enough funds to do so,” said Stephanie Kenyon, AOPA Foundation vice president of development and communications. “By providing funding for these scholarships, we are helping future aviators get a step closer to fulfilling their dreams and investing in the future of our industry.”
This just-announced grant program is only one of three ways the foundation is giving back to the aviation community. The AOPA Foundation also offers Giving Back grants to organizations that use general aviation to do good work and, this year, 25 scholarships for students.
“By helping fund other charitable organizations’ scholarships, we are able to reach a wider group of prospective pilots and ultimately grow the pilot population,” Kenyon said.
To apply for a grant to fund an existing nonprofit scholarship, organizations should submit a letter of intent that includes information to satisfy eligibility requirements as well as a narrative that provides an overview of the scholarship program for which funds are being sought.
