AOPA is introducing AOPA Pro Pilot, a new level of membership designed to meet the exclusive needs of professional pilots whose career and financial security may depend on the continued ability to fly for a living.
AOPA Pro Pilot membership is available exclusively to pilots under age 59 who hold a commercial or airline transport pilot (ATP) certificate, and have a valid first class or second class medical certificate.
For $21.99 per month, or $259 per year, AOPA Pro Pilot-level members receive all the benefits of AOPA membership, plus additional benefits just for pros.
Members of the AOPA Pro Pilot community are automatically enrolled in Pilot Protection Services Plus—an AOPA member exclusive product designed to protect a professional’s pilot and medical certificates. Pilot Protection Services Plus can protect an individual pilot when a company policy may not, and provides access to aviation attorneys in the event of an FAA enforcement or civil penalty action.
Pilot Protection Services Plus also provides access to confidential, personal advice from AOPA’s team of medical specialists on a range of topics from routine questions about medications to significant medical matters that could jeopardize a pilot’s medical certification.
An exclusive Loss of Medical Certificate Disability Insurance policy provides $7,500 in face benefit lump sum coverage. This is "stackable" coverage that can be incremental to an existing policy, and it is portable—which means that you can take it with you, no matter where you work. The policy applies an "ability to fly" test to determine whether a disability prevents you from flying for your livelihood. Aviation medical advocacy is available to AOPA Pro Pilot members to help get a lost medical certificate reinstated.
Additional coverage is available for purchase, and provides a monthly pay benefit from $500 to $6,000 a month for a continued disability, or a lump sum benefit of up to $250,000 for permanent protection for your family and your income in the event of a lost medical certificate.
Pilots must possess a current first or second class medical and must be under age 59 to be eligible for insurance. Older pilots who meet the other qualifications can become Pro Pilot LT members and receive all non-insurance benefits of AOPA Pro Pilot.
Membership in AOPA Pro Pilot also includes 12 issues of AOPA Pilot Turbine Edition (print and digital); 12 digital issues of Flight Training magazine; all of the online tools and resources available to AOPA members; exclusive access to the AOPA Pro Pilot hotline; and opportunities to participate in the Professional Pilot’s Speakers Bureau as a way to give back by speaking publicly to prospective pilots about career opportunities in aviation, and more.
