Making its first appearance in the United States, the Spanish-built ELA Aviación G10 Eclipse gyroplane is on display at the Sun 'n Fun International Fly-In and Expo by its American dealer Rollison Light Sport Aircraft. Rob Rollison of Bloomfield, Indiana, also sells the Aerotrek fixed-wing light sport aircraft.
The ELA G10 can be flown with only a driver's license in the experimental category and is sold as a kit. Based on the currency exchange rate, the ELA G10 kit costs $93,259 for a kit with a 100-horsepower Rotax engine, and $101,913 for one with a 115-hp engine. A radio and intercom system comes standard along with Aveo LED strobe lights and a deluxe engine monitoring system.
In addition to the price, builders may want to purchase a $2,500 assembly training and assistance package, a $2,475 Funkwerk Avionics transponder made in Germany, and a $2,000 NavWorx Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast In/Out unit. Painting is $3,200. An FAA inspection once the kit is built is $400.
ELA Aviación has produced gyrocopters since 1996 and is located in southwestern Spain, 100 miles by car from Portugal on the Pista de Ultraligeros Airport (translation, The Ultralight Track) near the city of Fuenta Obejuna. It is 25 miles north of Cordoba. The nearest large city is Seville.
ELA has delivered 20 of the G10 Eclipse kits in Spain and Europe. There is only one in the United States, the one on display at Sun 'n Fun.
