Airport Support Network relaunch underway

Sun 'n Fun breakfast highlights new initiatives

The AOPA Airport Support Network begins a new era this year with new oversight, new programs, and a compelling new video to be shared with the nation’s community airports.

In addition to the staff realignment and full complement of regional managers throughout the country, the ASN staff has prepared a video—America’s Community Airports: Going Higher—which will be shared with all ASN volunteers. They will have this educational and inspiring video on a thumb drive that they can use to show community leaders in their area.

“America cannot afford to lose another community airport,” AOPA President Mark Baker said at a breakfast for the volunteers April 8, echoing words he used in the video. The video is comprised of vignettes of stories from ASN volunteers throughout the country, describing the impact their local airport has on the economy.

For new ASN volunteer Lynn Erickson and his wife Joanne, this was their first ASN breakfast. A retired corporate pilot, Erickson is excited to be sharing the lessons he learned in the development and continued organization of his airpark in Madison, Wisconsin.

“I had a fellow from the East Coast call me and I was driving [here] so I pulled off and we had a conversation,” Erickson said. “I have always enjoyed sharing our experiences, now it’s official I guess.”

AOPA Senior Director of Government Affairs Dawn Veatch promised more improvements to the ASN program, including continued enhancements to the website.
