AOPA has donated more than $1,000 to the Veterans Airlift Command. As part of an effort around Veteran’s Day last year, AOPA announced it would contribute 10 percent of new memberships and renewals between Nov. 11 and 22 to the Veterans Airlift Command. The effort enabled the association to donate $1,380 to the organization.
“The Veterans Airlift Command is a great organization that connects America’s community of pilots with those who have given so much,” said AOPA President Mark Baker. “We are honored to help them in their effort to serve all those who have served and are in need.”
In March 2015, Veterans Airlift Command flew its 10,000th veteran. The group provides free air transportation to post 9/11 combat wounded veterans and their families for medical and other compassionate purposes through a national network of volunteer aircraft owners and pilots.
Veterans Airlift Command Founder Walter Fricke received AOPA’s Laurence P. Sharples Perpetual Award for demonstrating the greatest selfless commitment to general aviation.
