A bill that would exempt aircraft repair and upgrade parts from sales tax in Maryland will be heard by the state Budget and Taxation Committee Feb. 3. AOPA Director of State Government Affairs Jared Esselman will testify in support of the legislation, Maryland Senate Bill 14.
Meanwhile, AOPA is working to bolster support for the bill and will send multiple letters advocating for the measure.
“Passage of this bill could have a direct impact on lowering your cost of flying,” Esselman said to AOPA members in Maryland. “That is why we need you to reach out to your elected officials and ask them to support Maryland Senate Bill 14.”
The bill was introduced earlier this year by State Sen. Ed Reilly (R-District 33). Ohio and Pennsylvania have similar exemptions that could take aviation business away from the state. Reilly’s effort would help level the aircraft maintenance field and keep business in Maryland.
Delegate Sid Saab (R-House of Delegates District 33) has introduced a companion bill in the House of Delegates.
