Visceral reactions aside, probably very few IFR aviators would read that phrase, wave a hand in dismissal, and move on to more provocative subjects. Likely even fewer insist that solid chunks of their proficiency flying focus on handling near-stall IFR scenarios, including while flying “under the hood.” View-limited or not, what kinds of near-stall scenarios is an instrument pilot likely to confront? The pilot of a Lancair 4 climbing through flights levels encountered quick-forming ice and nearly stalled; the aircraft was flying on the autopilot at the time.

Minnesota Supreme Court sides with Cirrus in fatal crash

The estate of a pilot killed with a passenger in a 2003 crash near Hill City, Minn., will not collect damages from Cirrus Aircraft, following a decision by the Minnesota Supreme Court July 18 that upheld an appellate ruling in favor of the aircraft maker. The crash resulted from spatial disorientation on a night VFR flight into IMC, according to the NTSB, and the pilot's family blamed Cirrus for failing to provide a lesson on the topic.

Avidyne autopilot interface latest collaboration for Aspen
